I believe every student can learn, and wants to experience the excitement of new discovery. At Guiding Compass, I use observations and informal content-based assessments to identify students' strengths. I use strengths, instead of weaknesses, to provide key strategies and open new doors for success. I engage students with developmentally appropriate learning tasks that foster creativity. I offer students multiple opportunities to explore new skill levels and to represent their learning. Using multi-sensory activities, I make learning fun. Within a motivated environment, I know students express new ideas using their strengths, recognize their independence in skill mastery, and own their learning with smiles.
I am a certified teacher with a Masters of Science in Early Childhood Education, and a Bachelors of Science in Generic Special Education/Elementary Education. With 30 years of classroom teaching in the areas of inclusion, resource and academic life skills, I bring practical experience to motivate students and help them feel successful. To facilitate the learning process, I consult with both parents and teachers, access a broad range of teaching methodologies, and find creative tools for students’ individualized lesson plans (IEPs).
